As expected, January sales sputtered a bit from December’s pace, as Factory incentives cooled and aging inventory thinned. Still, year-over-year, most dealers held their own with some even posting modest gains in areas not affected by winter storms.
We don’t anticipate any significant movement in SAAR in February. The only caveat would be an unforeseen sell off in the red-hot stock market, as auto sales historically mirror equities. Barring that (or another onslaught from Mother Nature), the industry is poised to enjoy another month of decent numbers, despite losing three selling days.
For your marketing message this month, take advantage of the natural opportunities provided by the calendar. The shorter month, along with Presidents’ Day and Valentine’s Day give us plenty to hang our hats on.
